Please give us a hand, we will have 1 (one)  3 hour session to man and will need approx. 20 people for that session.(Most likely 9am-12pm) Help will also be required the afternoon before for set up. We have been given a great fundraising opportunity by Brisbane Grammar School to provided the BBQ at the GPS rowing regatta on that day at Lake Kawana. There will be over 2000 competitors so this will be a great fundraiser we just need numbers to carry it off. We would like to really make this a success and help us buy 10-20 new boards for the start of next year. With numbers increasing in our younger age groups, we will need a large number of new boards each year from now on and this is the only way we can afford to buy them. Please help out as it will directly benefit your kids with improved equipment.

If you're renewing, your forms are printed off in the office and will be sent out in August.  You'll only need to update any details, including email addresses, sign each form, and return with the medical form.  Hopefully this process will save time on sign on days, if you have all the paperwork done.

Junior Activities in Surf Lifesaving

Nippers came about in response to declining numbers in the 60's, and clubs believed that these nippers would graduate into active members and with more sporting experience, improve their competitive profiles.

These days, junior activities continue to grow in number and now make up nearly 40% of SLSA's total membership.  The focus of juniors has changed over the last decade from what was a competitive focus to more of a balance between lifesaving and competition.

Objectives for Junior Development

*  To provide the best possible lifesaving experience for all juniors with a view to encouraging long-term active participation

*  To provide opportunities for juniors to participate and enjoy lifesaving and competition in an aquatic environment by offering a wide variety of activities suited to the skills and maturation levels of all juniors

*  To ensure the juniors are safe on Australia's beaches through the provision of surf safety education programs

*  To develop a team based philosophy encompassing leadership, camaraderie, teamwork, and fun

*  To promote social, emotional and physical growth and development in a healthy environment.

Junior Development Awards

The Junior Development Program pathways knowledge and skills learning outcomes that are tailored to each of the age groups, ensuring the content is relevant, in line with lifesaving and surf sports most up to date training and most of all, exciting!  The program is based on participatory evaluation and not assessed on competence.  This seems the best way to introduce youngsters to lifesaving where fun takes priority over being "tested".

The Awards covered include:

       Surf Play 1 & 2                -  Under 6 & 7

       Surf Aware 1 & 2             -  Under 8 & 9

       Surf Safe 1 & 2               -  Under 10 & 11

       Surf Smart 1 & 2             - Under 12 & 13
