What’s Involved

The First Step

Become a Surf Life SaverYou will need to join the Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club. This includes membership (members over 18 years) to our Supporters Club where you can enjoy meals and music over looking the ocean.
Pre-requisites:

 

  •  be a minimum of 15 years old on the date of examination
  • complete a 400 metre pool swim (in a pool not less than 25m In length) in 9 minutes or less

Becoming a member of our surf club will be a rewarding experience, an opportunity to meet new people, contribute to your community whilst learning new skills.

This course is run under the guidelines of Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ).

SLSQ is a Registered Training Organisation and is committed to providing quality training. All our trainers undergo extensive proficiencies each year to ensure they are up to date with current standards.

And after your Bronze

Once you have gained your Bronze Medallion you will be included on a beach patrol team and issued with a patrol uniform.

You will be rostered on approximately once a month. There are two patrol teams rostered each day (changing over at lunch time). Patrols occur weekends and public holidays from mid September to early May.

Once in a patrol team you will continue to learn and gain experience.

The Bronze Medallion Cert II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) is the beginning of many other awards you can obtain. You can become an IRB driver, crewie, advanced resuscitation operator, First Aider and even become a trainer, assessor and a facilitator.
